Historically, the total comprehensive fee for HPI has been $13,000.
Starting in 2019, HPI has elected to subsidize the cost of the program for all attendees, with no fellow contributing more than $9,000 individually. Many fellows qualify for need-based financial support, with typical additional subsidies in the range of $3,000-$4,000.
We call each fellow’s contribution a ‘cost-share.’ Headlong is a small non-profit committed to supporting artists. We offer cost reductions to our fellows because we want our program to contribute richly to their creative lives without overstraining their financial resources. In turn, each fellow’s individual contribution furthers our mission of providing a high-quality program that is financially accessible to all.
How to apply:
The cost of attending HPI is subsidized for all fellows.
If you are able to contribute $9,000 towards the expense of the program, no additional financial documentation is required. Conversation about additional need-based financial support is integrated into our application process. Applicants begin by simply indicating their interest in need-based financial support on our ‘apply’ page. They then complete a brief questionnaire, followed by a phone call or in-person conversation with program staff.
HPI considers financial need holistically, with awareness towards the entirety of your financial life, including debt, assets, resources, current income, and earning potential. Fellows who accept additional need-based financial support agree to complete a modest number of work-exchange hours, typically totaling 50-100 hours, spread out over and after the program.
